Just 34 laps into the NASCAR Hollywood Casino 400 on September 11, 2022, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin, driving the newly wrapped No. 11 Acumatica Toyota Camry TRD, suffered an early pit penalty that dropped him back even further than his starting position of 25. A more novice driver may have given up—but veteran Hamlin would never consider it an option.
Hamlin rebounded from the penalty and finished Stage One in 12th place. Battling a “tight” car, his position ebbed and flowed–but even that couldn’t slow Hamlin down as he continued edging forward. He ended Stage Two in sixth and continued to battle the pack as the number of laps dwindled.
Finally, with just 17 laps to go, Hamlin overcame teammate Christopher Bell to take second, giving leader Bubba Wallace a powerful contender for the remainder of the race at the crowded Kansas Speedway.
“I was driving as hard as I could,” Hamlin said in a post-race interview. “Nothing will ever come free. If you think I’m going to let you win, you better get another job.” His tenacity was rewarded with a second-place finish, just one second behind Wallace in first.
Such grit and determination are why Acumatica was proud to be the team’s primary sponsor this weekend – a team that tirelessly devotes itself to achieving such outstanding results.
“We’re honored to be associated with championship teams like Joe Gibbs Racing and prominent drivers like Denny Hamlin, who are known for their impressive performances on the racetrack,” said Acumatica CEO John Case in the press release announcing Acumatica’s sponsorship of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR). “Performance is a value that’s central to our mission. We empower businesses with our high-performance solutions that adapt to today’s evolving market demands. Our sponsorship allows us to connect NASCAR’s fan base with competitive, cutting-edge technologies.”
As John noted, today’s marketplace is evolving, and the constant changes require organizations—whether they’re an elite NASCAR racing team or purveyors of award-winning cloud ERP technology—to assess how they can succeed. For Acumatica and JGR, it boils down to performance and teamwork.
Shared Ideals: Performance and Teamwork
Joe Gibbs, owner of JGR, as well as a NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee and Pro Football Hall of Famer, is quoted as saying, “You win with people.” Gibbs should know. As an NFL coach, he won three Super Bowls, and as the owner of JGR, he’s accumulated an impressive record that includes five Cup Series championships, five Xfinity Series owner’s championships, and over 350 NASCAR races. And he did all of it with people he handpicked.
“The key to being a good manager or a good entrepreneur is to pick the right people,” Gibbs has said. “Pick the right people, and they’ll make you look good.”
For JGR, high performance expectations and stalwart teamwork continue to be a winning combination, and at Acumatica, we champion these same ideals. Our own handpicked team is focused on delivering a quality cloud ERP product that provides small and medium businesses (SMBs) with the capabilities they need to thrive in today’s digital economy.
Gibbs called out the similarities between our two organizations in the press release: “We’re excited to welcome Acumatica into our sport and have the opportunity to represent its innovative technology on the racetrack. Acumatica is an ideal sponsor for JGR given our shared commitment to performance and teamwork. We look forward to…building what will surely become a winning relationship.”
Hamlin put it even more succinctly: “Gotta thank Acumatica for coming on—if you want to improve your business, they can help you do it.”
The Future with JGR, Acumatica, and NASCAR
Like Gibbs, we’re excited to continue our relationship with JGR as an associate sponsor for three additional NASCAR races this 2022 season. We’re also excited to have an opportunity to be involved with NASCAR, one of the most popular spectator sports of all times.
NASCAR has been around for over 70 years, and in the last decade or so, NASCAR has made a concerted effort to offset its environmental impact by combining forces with major industry players, its partners, and its fans through its NASCAR Green Platform.
According to the NASCAR website, the racing organization has made some great strides:
Industry-wide ‘NASCAR Green’ initiatives taking place at NASCAR events throughout the racing season include racing on a blended biofuel called Sunoco Green E15, expansive in-venue recycling efforts, food diversion, solar powered tracks and lighting fixtures, organic farms changing the menu in hospitality suites, a faster and more energy efficient track sweeper and recycling of racing oils and fluids as well as used racing tires.
Additional NASCAR sustainability programs include:
- The “NASCAR Tree Planting Program” that has resulted in more than 500,000 trees being planted, a digital tree planting program that allows fans to donate trees, and the Community Tree Recovery Program that partners with the Arbor Day Foundation to affect change in “race markets directly affected by climate-related natural disaster.”
- Partnering with Safety-Kleen, an organization that recycles and refines automotive fluids.
- Recycling approximately 120,000 Goodyear racing tires every year across NASCAR’s three national series.
- Investing in reforestation and biodiversity projects in the US and around the world to offset employee air travel.
- Partnering with NASCAR tracks, teams, and venues to implement renewable energy, recycling, and other sustainably minded endeavors.
Acumatica is passionate about reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable business practices through our AcumatiCares program, and we fully support NASCAR’s mission to operate responsibly.
Experience JGR and NASCAR Live
Members of the Acumatica community can look forward to getting a close-up and personal experience with JGR and NASCAR during Acumatica Summit 2023 (January 29 – February 3, 2022, at the Wynn Las Vegas). A Denny Hamlin show car emblazoned with the Acumatica logo, an interactive NASCAR exhibit, and a tire changing station will all be available in the Acumatica Marketplace, and attendees can anticipate a hands-on demonstration of how performance and teamwork help organizations achieve success.
As with our recent sponsorship of Paretta Autosport (INDYCAR’s only woman-owned, woman-driven, and woman-forward team), we’re honored to be a part of the JGR team and to support NASCAR and its efforts to create a fun and sustainable experience for millions of fans around the world. Together, we can make a difference.
