The modern environmental movement began in 1970 when Senator Gaylord Nelson and activist Denis Hayes sparked national awareness about air and water pollution. By creating the first Earth Day on April 22, they launched a movement mobilizing millions of people across the U.S. around the importance of environmental protection and sustainability.
Now, over 193 countries and more than 1 billion people participate in activities ranging from planting trees and cleaning up litter to attending sustainability workshops and advocating for greener policies. This makes Earth Day the largest civic event in the world, and this year, its theme is “Our Power, Our Planet™.”
According to EARTHDAY.ORG, the theme “reflects a fundamental truth: environmental progress doesn’t depend on any single administration or election. It’s sustained by daily actions of communities, educators, workers, and families protecting where they live and work.”
At Acumatica, we’re committed to protecting the natural environment while ensuring our Community members thrive and grow in today’s digital world. We do this by providing a cloud-based ERP solution that minimizes environmental impact, working to reduce the carbon footprint of our annual Acumatica Summit, and operating our company with sustainable, energy-efficient practices and responsible resource management.
Our goal? To help make the world a better, cleaner, and more inclusive place to live—one day at a time.
Innovation with Integrity: How Acumatica Practices Sustainability
Our passion for making a difference is reflected in our everyday operations and in our culture. Our ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles, and our AcumatiCares program, ensure that we’re developing innovative technology responsibly, and this includes recognizing that how we develop and deliver our product impacts the world around us.
Ensuring this impact is beneficial begins with acting with integrity. This is one of Acumatica’s immutable core values, and in our 2024 ESG Report, we explain what this looks like:
“We build trust through transparency, honesty, and doing what’s right— even when it’s not the easiest path. From our pricing structure to our product promises, we are upfront and genuine with our customers and one another. Integrity is at the core of how we operate, because strong partnerships are built on truth and mutual respect.”
Doing what’s right for our local and global communities includes fostering sustainable, ethical growth while protecting our planet through operational efficiency. Our ESG report lays out the steps we’re taking to reduce our operational footprint, including:
- Investing in verified carbon credits for 100% of Acumatica’s carbon impact with ICVCM Core Carbon Principles (CCP) credits.
- Purchasing verified carbon credits equal to 100% of attendee travel to our annual Summit.
- Purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs) to cover the electricity consumption of our global office footprint, achieving 100% coverage of energy consumed in our North America, Serbia, and Sri Lanka offices.
For four consecutive years, Acumatica has achieved zero net carbon emissions, and though we’re proud to be a certified climate neutral company, we understand that creating a healthy, sustainable future for the generations to come is an ongoing responsibility.
Advancing Environmentally Responsible Business Practices
Acumatica is continuing to fight for ecological preservation by utilizing proactive, targeted strategies across our organization. One area in which we’ve made great strides is in how we manage our natural resources.
Energy
We’ve reduced onsite energy consumption via a hybrid work environment as well as through decreased transport-related emissions. Similarly, we’ve limited non-essential business travel and sourced resources locally for company events, limiting event transportation requirements.
Waste
Our waste reduction efforts include:
- Promoting recycling and re-use.
- Extending the life of hardware.
- Reducing single-use materials.
Water
As a digitally driven business, our water footprint is minimal but water conservation practices, such as selecting water-efficient AWS data centers designed to minimize freshwater consumption, are some of the practical ways Acumatica continues to make meaningful environmental progress.
Acumatica’s Sustainability Commitment: Today, For the Future
As we declared on Earth Day 2024 and Earth Day 2025, Acumatica’s drive to provide our Community with a responsibly designed and executed business management solution continues unabated.
By transitioning customers to our modern cloud ERP software, we’re decreasing the emissions footprint of older, legacy systems. Setting near-term science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets through the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and planting trees on Forestnation.com and Treenation.com (over 3,000 so far) are ways we’re protecting our atmosphere and mitigating climate change. And establishing high sustainability standards ensures that events, like our annual Acumatica Summit, are “zero-waste.”
Because of our continuous sustainability efforts, we’ve earned recognition from respected analysts and organizations. We’re proud to be honored at the 2026 Puget Sound Business Journal Environmental and Sustainability Awards in the Innovation category thanks to our “significant and wide-ranging impact” we’ve made in sustainability.
We’ve also been recognized by EcoVardis, a global platform that provides sustainability ratings for businesses, which gave us its Silver Medal in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, putting us in the top 15% of industry competitors. Acumatica is also a MeetGreen “Visionary” for our eco-conscious practices during our annual Summit and the recipient of a TrustRadius Tech Cares award for demonstrating a commitment to corporate social responsibility and making a positive impact on people and the planet.
We’re excited to be a business that takes serving our Community and protecting our planet seriously. We reaffirmed our commitment to sustainability in 2024 by participating in the UN Global Compact (the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative), and we’re reaffirming our pledge to sustainability today, for the future.
