Boca Terry

Boca Terry provides five-star hotels, cruise lines, spas, medical facilities, and promotional product companies with luxurious bathrobes, towels, slippers, and more. In its infancy, Boca Terry ran on QuickBooks, ACT!, and a Microsoft Access program for sales order entry.

Co-founder and CEO Bruce Cohen says they initially turned to NetSuite to replace their three disparate applications, but it was not the right choice. “The problem with NetSuite was that we had to adapt to their system.”

The decision was made to look for a new business management solution, and their search led them to Acumatica. The Boca Terry team implemented Acumatica Retail Edition, which includes Acumatica’s native connector for BigCommerce. Edward Cohen, Bruce’s brother, co-founder, and head of financial operations, says the connector automated their previously manual tasks, including transferring online orders.

“In the old Access system, we couldn’t bring in sales, and we were probably losing $500,000 a year because we weren’t really connecting it. We would just make journal entries of cash coming in and not associating it every day. Now, every single sales order that comes in from the eCommerce site is automatically uploaded and in Acumatica so we’re able to see that sale.”

Edward also says that shipping eCommerce orders is now easier and requires fewer steps. Rather than going into BigCommerce, downloading all the information, printing purchase orders, and then sending information back to customers, “it’s all done automatically.”

Saddleback Leather Co.

Luxury leather goods provider Saddleback Leather began its eCommerce journey with a custom-made financial system, but they believed implementing NetSuite would take them to the next level. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Founder and CEO Dave Munson says, “It took 14 developers just to make it work. It was proprietary so anything you wanted changed took 10 times longer than necessary to implement.”

It gets worse.

Saddleback Leather used NetSuite’s front end as its online store but quickly discovered that it didn’t work seamlessly with its financials. It was also difficult to use any SEO on the website, had 9 to 12 second load times (which Google penalized), didn’t allow the creation of product pages without a programmer, and the request to enable customer reviews on the website needed to be repeated multiple times.

Saddleback Leather decided Magento would be a better option, but that, too, was fraught with issues, including the fact that Saddleback Leather’s 14-member internal development team couldn’t connect it to NetSuite. The result? No sales for a month and no online reviews to the website.

It was past time to reject NetSuite, and when they did, they found Acumatica. Dave says, “[With Acumatica], our technology costs are now 33 percent cheaper and we have 10 times the functionality,” he says. “Our organic traffic is up 45 percent, and we are selling more because we are off NetSuite and on Acumatica.”

Acumatica’s seamless integrations with third-party applications, like BigCommerce, has also been a game changer. Now, they can make product landing pages, add SEO, and launch email marketing campaigns without any headaches.

“We’re implementing actions and a forum on our site, which we couldn’t do before,” Dave says. “We wanted it for years and years, and there is a long list of marketing things we can do now that we couldn’t before.”

Inspirus

Inspirus, a Pluxee company, offers employment engagement and recognition solutions that inspire solutions and enhance employee experience. Sadly, the decades-old financial system upon which it relied did not inspire anyone nor did it enhance their operations.

“We couldn’t analyze anything in-depth or extract data live into Excel,” says CFO Lionel Koch.

There were other challenges, including the fact that the system was difficult to use, lacked material requirements planning, made demand forecasting inaccurate, and required manual invoicing with inflexible invoice formats. But that all changed when they decided to find a modern ERP solution.
